Search Engines
There are a great many Web search engines besides Google. There were “hot" Web search engines before Google,
and Google may not be the last word in search technology. In Chapter 2, you'll find information
about why some of these engines may be useful to you (even though you already use Google!).
You can break Web search engines into two general categories. The first group, like Google, gets its information
from its own index and database of Web pages:
In contrast to the single-source search engines, meta-search engines aggregate information from a number of
sources (usually other engines). You do need to be cautious in using the data from meta-search engines because (in
some cases) results are ranked according to pay-for-placement without this being indicated.
